Welcome to Sweden
Sweden, the 1970s. 20,000–25,000 people from Latin America arrived. They were fleeing dictatorships. They were fleeing persecution, torture, and death. Maria was heavily pregnant and fled together with her three daughters and her husband. Marta came straight from prison to the airplane. Jeannette was just a teenager longing for her mother. Silvia had already lived underground for several years, in exile with her parents, before they finally managed to reach Sweden. With barely any luggage and no address to travel to, they set off on their first flight – to a country they knew nothing about.
